Pilates classes

Designed to improve core strength and posture, Pilates is often referred to as body sculpting. Focussing on controlled alignment and working within a range of motion, Pilates is a safe and effective method to strengthen the body and is particularly beneficial to those dealing with back pain.

What is Pilates?

Pilates focuses on 8 key principles: core strength, alignment, breathing, coordination, relaxation, flowing movement, stamina and concentration. You will enjoy a range of low impact, low repetition stretching and conditioning exercises which strengthen, elongate and restore the body to balance.

What is it for?

Pilates guides the body to use only the muscles needed to execute a movement, encouraging physical efficiency.

Who is it for?

Pilates is suitable for all ages, abilities and fitness levels.



What should I expect? 

Classes are 1 hour long and can be booked individually or as blocks of 6 or 10. Please wear loose comfortable clothing. Prices start from £10.

About Melissa Mann           

Melissa has worked in London, Bristol and Somerset as a Pilates instructor for over 15 years, working with private clients, teaching group classes and corporate environments.

She is particularly experienced in working with clients who:

  • have neck, back, knee or shoulder problems

  • have recently given birth

  • lead busy, often stressful lives

  • have sedentary, desk-based jobs

  • are over 60

Melissa qualified as a Pilates teacher in 2003 from The Place in London, accredited by The Pilates Foundation. Melissa is a full member of the Pilates Foundation. She also has a PhD in the field of professional-client relationship management.

I really enjoy Melissa’s classes. I find the instructions very clear and easy to follow. I really feel the benefit of the stretching and strengthening exercises. Pilates is helping my posture and is keeping me strong as I get older. I like the way Melissa explains why we do things, which muscles we are using and why it is important for our core strength.
